Kuito — A hundred hectares of land at Chissindo area, about seven kilometres to the south of Kuito city, central Bie province, are being cleared by the British demining company, "The Hallo Trust", for construction of houses.
The information was released over the weekend by Kuito administrator, Moisés Américo Kapapelo Kachipaco, who added that 17 landmines and other explosive devices have been cleared in the site.
The administrator said the distribution of plots to Kuito population has been suspended as the authorities suspect the area set aside for construction of houses is laden with landmines.
He said the distribution of plots of land will restart as soon as the operation of demining ends.
