A conference entitled ‘Evaluation and Awareness Conference on the Implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Zambia’ was convened by the Southern Africa Resource Watch (SARW) in partnership with the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) through its affiliate the Mine Workers Union of Zambia (MUZ) and the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) at Southern Sun Hotel in Lusaka, Zambia on 29-30 September, 2010. The conference’s main objectives included: Evaluating progress and indentifying challenges facing the EITI in Zambia; learning from other SADC experiences where the EITI is being implemented; coming up with an action plan with clear targets, timeframes and source of finance to ensure that Zambia meets the validation requirements and also learning from other similar initiatives’ experiences such as the Construction Sector Transparency Initiative (CoSTI). This report provides highlights from the main presentations, plenary and group work presentations.
